Play video Coyote Tan EDC Essentials 0 Hero

If you’ve spent any time with us, you know we love building loadouts around a single color. We’ve done all black more times than we can count, we went all green not too long ago, and this time around we’re reaching for one of our personal favorite shades: coyote tan.

From its military roots to the trail to the streetwear scene, the desert palette is having a serious run right now, and just about every brand worth its salt makes something in it.

So without further delay, let’s dig into some of the best coyote tan EDC gear money can buy.

Turtlebox Cub

Turtlebox Cub F 11 26 1
Why It Made The Cut
  • Turtlebox’s signature go-anywhere sound, shrunk down to a size you’ll actually grab on the way out the door.

Alright, picture an overbuilt hard case that’s learned to play music and you’ve basically arrived at a Turtlebox. This week’s sponsor hails from Houston, Texas, where they build speakers for duck boats, deer camps, and Gulf Coast salt flats.

And in this desert tan, the Cub slides into our loadout perfectly. For us, this is exactly what a Turtlebox is supposed to look like.

The Cub is the newest addition to the family, and slots between the 2.4-pound Ranger and the 10-pound Original. The speaker has a bit heft to it, weighing in at just over 5 pounds, and in hand, feels about the size of a standard lunchbox (8.6 x 7.2 x 5.75 inches for those who are counting).

Technically, that makes it half the flagship’s weight but interestingly enough, it gives up almost nothing in output. The Cub pumps out 118 decibels, courtesy of a 4.5-inch woofer, 1.3-inch titanium tweeter, and a Class D amp that keeps the bass intact. And we have to say, we were not only impressed with both the sound quality and volume output, but also that bass – especially in the great outdoors.

The speaker is IP67 rated for both fresh and saltwater, it’s completely submersible in up to three feet water, and the best part? It even floats.

The speaker is also drop, crush, and dust-proof. And stainless tie-downs on both flanks let you strap it to a boat console or paddleboard if that’s your thing as well.

Bluetooth 5.4 handles pairing, TWS gives you true left/right stereo if you’d like to set it up with a second Cub, and Party Mode will even let you connect as many speakers across the entire lineup as you want.

Charging finally moves to USB-C, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t at least mention that it does not come with a wall charger (just the cable). You can expect about 14-plus hours of playback with sensible volumes, but we were getting closer to five hours when we let the volume rip a bit.

At $330, the Cub is certainly an investment, especially for a smaller speaker. But, if your weekends involve outdoor adventure, this is the speaker you buy once and never have to worry about out again.

Output: 118dB
Drivers: 4.5″ woofer, 1.3″ titanium tweeter
Battery Life: 14+ hours
Water Resistance: IP67 (floats)

RZE UTD-8000-CKT

RZE UTD8000CKT F 11 26 1
Why It Made The Cut
  • For everyone who loves the idea of a G-Shock but wishes it came in hardened titanium, Singapore’s RZE built exactly that.

The Singaporean team at RZE  spent five years hardening titanium tool watches before going digital in 2025, and the result is exactly what you see here. The CKT is a solid Grade 2 titanium case wrapped around a shock-mounted module that’s guaranteed for life.

The CKT is the colorway that practically named this guide. RZE calls it Field Tan, and it’s a Cerakote finish over the bezel and midcase, all set against matte black DLC pushers and bezel screw, while the brand’s signature Medallion Yellow aluminum ring is sandwiched in between.

RZE UTD8000CKT F 11 26 2

The CKT also gets a yellow-tinted LCD that the standard models don’t have, and it reads noticeably better at steep angles.

It’s 43mm at the bezel, 13.4mm thick, and 49.5mm lug to lug, and while that footprint fills out our 6.75-inch wrist nicely, the titanium build keeps the wearing experience feeling ultra lightweight. A flat sapphire with inner AR coating and 200 meters of water resistance round out the spec sheet here.

The module itself is a simple affair: stopwatch, alarm, auto calendar, and an aqua-marine backlight, all powered by a CR2032 battery you can easily swap yourself with a Torx driver.

The community has some complaints about the missing dual time, and RZE actually listened to the feedback. The brand’s new 8080 module adds dual time, a countdown timer, and multi-alarms, and any UTD-8000 owner can have it retrofitted for $100.

So while we love G-SHOCKs as much as the next enthusiast, we think RZE offers up a pretty solid option for someone looking for something a bit different.

The James Brand The Palmer

The James Brand The Palmer F 11 26 1
Why It Made The Cut
  • A see-through box cutter with tool-free blade swaps that’s cool enough to earn a permanent pocket spot.

A $39 box cutter is a tough sell when the hardware store version runs about 10 bucks. But after you carry the Palmer for about a week, you might start to change your mind a bit.

The James Brand first released the Palmer in late 2022 as an anodized aluminum tool, then followed it up with the Clear version: a translucent, 100% post-consumer recycled PCTG build that leans heavy into the Game Boy Color and iMac G3 nostalgia.

The Palmer is the most affordable blade TJB makes, and this Olive Stone colorway sports a smoky, sandy tan that slots right into our theme, offset by a contrasting blue lanyard.

And the see-through housing is more than just an aesthetic play here The Palmer is built around TJB’s first-ever utility patent. It’s a spring-loaded slider with three positions: locked open, locked closed, and a middle setting that frees the blade for completely tool-free swaps.

With the clear body, you can actually watch the mechanism do its thing, and spot the release channel through the scales instead of going by feel like you would on the aluminum model.

In hand, it’s 3.5 inches closed, 0.4 inches thick, and 1.98 ounces, which is a half ounce lighter than its metal sibling and it’s properly coin-pocket sized. It runs standard high-carbon utility blades you can grab anywhere.

There is no pocket clip, but that’s a minor complaint for a box cutter we’ve kept in our kit for years now.

WUBEN G6 Spark

WUBEN G6 F 11 26 1
Why It Made The Cut
  • Somehow there’s a 500-lumen light, a folding blade, and a hat-brim headlamp trick hiding in a slab thinner than most car fobs.

Wuben has become another regular around these parts, and it’s because of releases like this. The brand’s unreleased G6 Spark seen here is currently on Kickstarter, where it’s already raised just under $200,000  just over a week into the campaign. Ours here is the coyote tan version, the better of the two launch colorways if you ask us.

At 8.6mm thick and just 40 grams, the G6 is an ultra thin light that basically disappears into a pocket, though the 7075 aluminum body keeps it from feeling like a throwaway gas station light.

WUBEN G6 F 11 26 2
Photo: HICONSUMPTION

The main emitter pushes 500 lumens through a TIR lens with a 66-meter throw, stepping down through 200, 100, 20, and a true 1-lumen moonlight. Enthusiasts will appreciate the 5000K neutral white over the usual icy blue tint, though the CRI sits at a modest 70, and that 500-lumen turbo is a 30-second sprint.

And then come the extras. There’s a 100-lumen side floodlight with solid and flashing red modes, and the spring-loaded clip is not only convenient for pocket carry but it also rotates 90 degrees to turn the whole thing into a hat-brim headlamp.

Additionally, there’s a small folding carbon steel blade tucked into the flank. It’s perfect for things like tape and packaging duty. And you can even detach it completely for carry-on travel.

WUBEN G6 F 11 26 3
Photo: HICONSUMPTION

There’s also a carabiner clip for attaching the light, USB-C port for convenient recharging, and an IP66 rating to handle inclement weather.

The G6 Spark is currently available for $34 on Kickstarter with a planned $45 retail, and so far, we’ve been impressed with what Wuben has packed into this footprint.

YETI LoadOut GoBox 1 Gear Case

YETI Loadout GoBox 1 Gear Case F 11 26 1
Why It Made The Cut
  • YETI’s famously overbuilt DNA, shrunk down to a submersible case sized for your pocket dump.

YETI has built their entire reputation on over-engineered gear, namely their nearly indestructible coolers. And the LoadOut GoBox line brings that same DNA to dry storage.

The GoBox 1 is the smallest of the family, and this Tan colorway is a nice nod to the Desert Tan Tundras that started it all.

The case measures 9.9 x 5.5 x 2.9 inches outside, and weighs 1.7 pounds when empty. We’ve found this box to be perfect for our EDC gear – things like your phone, knife, flashlight, wallet, and keys rather than a full tackle loadout.

Photo: HICONSUMPTION

What you’re paying for here (besides the YETI name, of course) is the seal. The Defender II shell carries IP65 and IP67 ratings, meaning it shrugs off dust and even survives full water submersion. It’s all thanks to a rubber gasket running the lid’s perimeter and a push-button latch that pops open with one squeeze and closes with a reassuring snap.

Inside, a removable tray sits up top (perfectly sized for a phone), the silicone PackAttic in the lid holds flat stuff like licenses and cards, and the main well is perfect for the rest. Our one complaint mirrors what many other owners have found: there’s no tab on that tray, so digging it out means flipping the whole case over.

YETI Loadout GoBox 1 Gear Case F 11 26 3
Photo: HICONSUMPTION

The loop-and-lock tether strap does take some real effort to remove, but that’s actually the point, since it’s meant to stay attached to a pack strap, kayak rigging, or the HitchPoint Grid on YETI’s soft coolers.

Is $65 a lot for a small plastic box? Absolutely. But between the build, the 5-year warranty, and the peace of mind when your phone goes overboard, the YETI tax feels a little easier to justify here.

Leatherman Signal

Leatherman Signal F 11 26 1
Why It Made The Cut
  • The Leatherman built for the trail, right down to the ferro rod, whistle, and hammer.

The Signal has always been the Leatherman you grab when hitting the trails, and a decade on from its 2015 debut, it’s still the brand’s definitive outdoor play.

The Coyote Tan treatment here is Cerakote over the 420 stainless frame, and it brings legitimate scratch and corrosion resistance along with those good looks. Paired with the black oxide implements, this is one of our personal favorite colorways in Leatherman’s catalog.

Leatherman Signal F 11 26 2
Photo: HICONSUMPTION

The core formula is classic Leatherman: 19 tools anchored by stout needlenose pliers with replaceable wire cutters, a one-hand-opening 2.73-inch 420HC combo blade, and a short but aggressive saw that’s still consistently ranked among the best in the multi-tool game.

Where the Signal separates itself, though, is the survival kit bolted around the edges. A ferro rod and emergency whistle live in a removable module, a diamond-coated sharpener handles field touch-ups, there’s a hammer surface on the butt for tent stakes, and the carabiner even doubles as a bottle opener. Fair warning on that ferro rod though: it is  a small one, and we’d say it’s better treated as backup insurance than your primary fire kit.

Photo: HICONSUMPTION

The trade-offs for this tool are pretty well documented at this point, but still worth mentioning. There are no scissors and no file, the combo edge divides knife folks (serrations are great on rope, but annoying on a sharpening stone), and the hammer head means swinging the handles open before you can reach the bit driver or can opener.

But, as previously mentioned, the Signal is still our go-to multi-tool when we’re heading outdoors.

NESTOUT Rugged 5000mAh Outdoor Battery

NESTOUT Rugged Portable Charger 5000mAh Outdoor Battery Power Bank F 11 26 1
Why It Made The Cut
  • A power bank purpose-built to survive the drops and dunks that kill ordinary ones.

ELECOM is one of Japan’s biggest electronics names, but here in the states, most people have never heard of them. NESTOUT is the outdoor line that was built to change that, and we’ve been covering their gear since it landed stateside a couple of years back.

The 5000mAh model seen here is the smallest of the family, and it’s a great entry-point to the lineup. It’s essentially a bottle-shaped tube that clocks in at just over 5 inches and weighs a feathery 4.9 ounces, complete with a tethered cap guarding the USB-C and USB-A ports.

Photo: HICONSUMPTION

And while this thing does look cool, the engineering under that shell is the real story. Pop it apart and there’s a honeycomb-style shock cushion suspending the lithium cell inside the hard case. That’s exactly how this device earns its MIL-STD-810G drop compliance. And with the cap sealed, the whole thing is IP67 rated.

Then there’s the modular party trick. A threaded connector on the base accepts NESTOUT’s tripod, and the brand’s lamp, flash, and fan modules snap right onto the top, turning the battery into a legitimate campsite lantern.

5,000mAh is roughly one full phone charge, and the 15W combined output is pretty leisurely by current standards. You can get triple the capacity for half the money if you’re never leaving the studio.

But that’s not who this is for. This is a power bank that was purpose built to take a beating.

Benchmade Bugout

Benchmade Bugout F 11 26 1
Why It Made The Cut
  • Still the ultralight EDC knife that every other ultralight knife gets measured against.

Benchmade’s Bugout is one of those knives that shows up in our coverage pretty regularly. But, that’s because, pound for pound, it’s arguably the best EDC knife on the market. Eight years after its 2017 debut, the rest of the ultralight category still feels like it’s chasing it.

Before we get into why, let’s talk about our color choice for a quick second. Benchmade calls this Grivory “Ranger Green,” but in hand, it skews a bit more coyote with just a tint of green in the right light. The smoked gray blade coating and the hit of bronze at the pivot round out the palette nicely.

Benchmade Bugout F 11 26 2
Photo: HICONSUMPTION

The 3.24-inch S30V drop point is ground thin and slices way above its weight class, the AXIS lock remains the fidget-friendly, fully ambidextrous benchmark it’s always been, and at 4.22 inches closed, 1.85 ounces, and with that mini deep-carry clip, the knife just rides in the pocket perfectly.

Our sole complaint here is the same one you’ll see elsewhere, and it’s that Benchmade’s pricing has crept to the point where this standard S30V model now costs what limited premium-steel runs did not too long ago.

Benchmade Bugout F 11 26 3
Photo: HICONSUMPTION

And, obviously the long-running Grivory debate hasn’t gone anywhere either. Thicker scales or a powder steel upgrade would go a long way toward softening that $200 ask.

Still, none of it changes the verdict, though. If a friend asked us for one knife to carry every day for the next decade, this is still the one we’d probably hand them.

Oakley Eyejacket Redux

Oakley Mens OO9438 Eyejacket Redux Rectangular Sunglasses F 11 26 1
Why It Made The Cut
  • The revived ’94 icon that’s suddenly everywhere from run clubs to streetwear feeds.

If you spend any time in the men’s gear space, you almost certainly can’t open Instagram without seeing a pair of Eye Jackets. Oakley is deep into one of the great brand comebacks in recent memory, and no silhouette has captured the moment quite like this one

It’s somehow become the shared uniform of run clubs and the streetwear scene alike. And for the record, we’re fully on board – and own several pairs ourselves.

Oakley Mens OO9438 Eyejacket Redux Rectangular Sunglasses F 11 26 2
Photo: HICONSUMPTION

It’s worth mentioning that there’s some history here that helps it earn the hype. The original Eye Jacket dropped in 1994 as the first Oakley designed entirely in CAD, prototyped on one of the earliest SLA 3D printers in existence. It was then refined through 150 iterations with the sole goal of eliminating every single straight line. Of course, Michael Jordan famously went on to model in the launch campaign.

Palace later revived the shape in a 2018 collab, and Oakley made it official with the Redux a year later (seen here), which is a faithful re-release of that original form.

The Sandstorm colorway we have here features a matte, semi-translucent bone-tan O Matter frame, while burnt orange temple tips and fiery Prizm Ruby Polarized lenses bring these to life.

Oakley Mens OO9438 Eyejacket Redux Rectangular Sunglasses F 11 26 3
Photo: HICONSUMPTION

Underneath those retro-futuristic aesthetics, they’re still legitimate performance shades. Prizm Ruby pumps contrast and the polarization kills glare, while the Unobtainium nosepads and temples are designed to actually grip harder the more you sweat, which is exactly why the run clubs adopted these in the first place.

Thirty years later, it feels like the Eye Jacket is having the second act it always deserved.

Arc’teryx Mantis 2 Waist Pack

Arcteryx Mantis 2 Waist Pack F 11 26 1
Why It Made The Cut
  • The cheapest way into Arc’teryx, and a legitimately great everyday sling in its own right.

Arc’teryx may have been born in the mountains, but over the years, that fossil skeleton has found its way onto every major city street across the globe. And for just $50, the Mantis 2 is just about the cheapest way to put one on your kit.

While the brand calls it a “waist pack,” the 2.5-liter bag is more of a crossbody in practice. And basically everyone wears it that way, slung across the chest with a thin webbing strap and a low-profile ITW buckle.

Arcteryx Mantis 2 Waist Pack F 11 26 2
Photo: HICONSUMPTION

The 600D shell is fully recycled polyester with a PFC-free DWR, the zippers are YKK, the materials meet bluesign criteria, and the whole thing comes out of a Fair Trade Certified factory and it weighs a pretty feathery 6.7 ounces.

The layout is where it wins us over for EDC. A stash pocket hides against the back panel and will even holster a Max-sized phone. The front zip handles smaller essentials like lip balm and earbuds, and the main compartment packs a zippered security pocket with a key leash plus a tall drop pocket that’s perfect for safely hauling a pair of sunglasses.

Arcteryx Mantis 2 Waist Pack F 11 26 3
Photo: HICONSUMPTION

That unpadded strap does slip out of adjustment more than we’d like, and we will say that actual waist carry is pretty uncomfortable with any real load.

But overall, as a travel and city companion that holds a full pocket dump, the Mantis 2 is a solid EDC sling option.

Capacity: 2.5L
Material: 600D recycled polyester (DWR)
