Beginning in 1963 with the Danish firm’s European Taxi set, car kits have long been a staple in LEGO’s ever-expanding catalog, with each new year seeing a host of new officially-licensed, brick-built takes on a diverse slew of automotive vehicles. And 2024 will be no exception, as the company has just pulled the cover off of more than half-a-dozen all-new sets celebrating iconic motorsports racers.

Constituting two of the new drop’s seven total releases are a pair of new additions to the LEGO Speed Champions lineup. The first is the LEGO Speed Champions 2023 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car — a 245-piece, 7-inch-long replica of the MCL60 F1 car that McLaren campaigned last season. The other addition to the range is the LEGO Speed Champions BMW M4 GT3 & BMW M Hybrid V8 Race Cars. Spanning roughly 6.5”, this 676-piece, two-car kit features LEGO’s take on the Bavarian brands M4 GT3 racer and a brick-a-fied version of BMW’s M Hybrid V8 prototype LMDh car that first broke cover in June of 2022. Both sets are officially licensed by McLaren and BMW. Also included is the all-new 693-piece McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna set from the LEGO Icons lineup — a 12.5-inch take on the legendary Brazilian driver’s MP4/4 racer, and a mini figure of Ayrton (minus the Marlboro logos).

Anchoring the new sets from the 2024 Motorsport collection are two novel additions to the LEGO Technic lineup. The first of the two is the LEGO Technic Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance Pull-Back — a roughly 1:18 scale, 240-piece replica of of the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team’s W14 E prototype. Even more noteworthy is the new drop’s 1,642-piece LEGO Technic Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance race car set. Also officially licensed by the AMG Petronas team, this larger 1:8 scale kit boasts racing slick tires, an actual differential, working steering, and a six-cylinder engine with moving pistons, just to name a few of its many lifelike details. Aimed at youngsters ages 4 and up, the brand’s 2024 Motorsport collection also includes two child-focused sets from its LEGO City lineup, with the LEGO City Green Race Car and the LEGO City Race Car and Car Carrier Truck.

LEGO’s 2024 Motorsport Collection sets will be available starting on March 1, 2024, with pricing starting at $80 for the LEGO Icons set, $27 for the LEGO Technic sets, $27 for the LEGO Speed Champions sets, and $10 for the LEGO City sets.
