We’ve come a long way since the days of shoulder-mounted boom boxes as far as portable speakers are concerned, and Bang & Olufsen is at the forefront of these improvements. Since the Beolit 20 was released a few years back, the premier Danish audio institution has been hard at work bringing us the highest sound quality in a portable package. This addition to the Beosound series was designed by the Danish-Italian duo from GamFratesi Studio, who value simplicity and functionality, featuring some of the most powerful features to date.
The Beosound A5 is the most powerful portable speaker that Bang & Olufsen has released to date with an overall output of 280 watts. It also houses the most impressive woofer in any of its portable speakers, producing immersive and deep bass frequencies. Furthermore, Beosound’s RoomSense acoustic technology adapts playback based on the space for higher fidelity and control (so you don’t accidentally start a party). The four onboard amplifiers are dealt with using the aforementioned woofer and tweeter on the front, with two full-range drivers on the back creating variable 360-degree sound output. WiFi streaming capability provides listeners the option to stream via AirPlay 2, Chromecast, and Spotify Connect. And the 12-hour battery life with the built-in wireless charger keeps the music playing. The dust and water-resistant body make it the perfect companion for outdoor adventures, but the built-in handle coupled with the basket weave case might make you more inclined to have a picnic.
At launch, there will be two finishes available: the natural silver aluminum with a Nordic weave cover, and the black anthracite aluminum with a dark oak cover. Not to worry though, the covers are interchangeable so spares and customization are at hand with more on the way. The build quality on the Beosound A5 is second to none, with no hard plastics on display and material built to last.
The convenient portability mixed with fantastic build and sound quality make Bang & Olufsen’s Beosound A5 an exciting entry into the series and is available now starting at $1,099.
