Traditionally, the Porsche 924 has been a somewhat controversial car, considered by many purists to be little more than a Volkswagen with Porsche badging — not to mention the 924’s front-engine configuration. However, as time goes on, practically every vintage model from the Stuttgart firm has steadily climbed in value, reviving interests in cars like the 924 while simultaneously giving way to some seriously impressive one-off projects, such as the stunning rally tribute seen here.

Adorned in a Martini Racing livery, this 1978 specimen has been treated to a lift kit and upgraded suspension, rubber mudflaps all around, a roof rack with recovery boards and a full-sized 15” spare, and an integrated custom front bumper that sees the 924’s pop-up headlights supplemented via a pair of HELLA auxiliary lights bookending a pair of larger halogen HELLA units. There are also additional spotlights fixed to the passenger side and bumper of the car. Under the hood is a 2.0-liter inline-four that comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission and boasts just 36,176 original miles (or 58,220km) on the clock.

The interior of the Porsche has also received an equally involved transformation that includes the addition of race seats fitted with rugged AUTO-STYLE seat covers and D1 Spec four-point racing harnesses, a HELLA 4532 Series flexible chart reading light, custom switches for the car’s auxiliary lighting, a custom carbon-look center console, a floor-mounted fire extinguisher, OMP pedals and footwells, an extended hydraulic hand brake, and a Vigor three-spoke Monte Carlo steering wheel with custom accent stitching to match the exterior’s Martini race livery.

Located in Vriezenveen, Netherlands, this 1978 Porsche 924 Safari build (VIN# 92448103912) is scheduled to cross the online auction block of Collecting Cars in the coming days.
