When it comes to outdoor usage, fixed blade knives are typically the most logical choice, however, when bestowed with the right design and materials, folding knives can be just as conducive to off-grid applications as any rigid, full-tang blade. Case in point, The James Brand’s all-new Redstone model — an outdoor-specific folding knife that was designed in collaboration with professional climber and adventure photographer Savannah Cummins.

Measuring 6.2″ overall, the Redstone is constructed around a one-piece alloy frame that was designed to minimize the knife’s total number of parts, thereby bolstering durability and lifespan while helping to keep out dirt and grime. In addition to sporting an AXIS-style TJB Slide-Lock locking mechanism and a combination of stainless steel and black-oxide hardware, the Redstone’s die-stamped chassis has also been outfitted with a pair of polypropylene “island” scales that allow for ample grip despite the item’s compact handle size. The unique handle and frame design comes paired with a partially-serrated 2.5″ Sandvik 12C27 steel drop point blade that’s equipped with a jimped spine, deployed via an oversized thumb hole, and effortlessly guided via Phosphor bronze washers. What’s more, on top of being fully ambidextrous, the Redstone can easily be opened or closed with one hand. Rounding out this impressive outdoor folder is a tip-up, deep-carry bent-wire pocket clip — an element that’s helped in keeping the Redstone’s weight to a minimum, with the blade tipping the scales at only 1.8oz (or 0.1125lbs).

Sold in a gift box crafted from recycled materials, The James Brand Redstone Knife is available now in four different color options, with pricing set at $89 — an MSRP that also includes a color-matched (or contrasting) accent paracord.

Purchase: $89
