Known for its ties with the military, SOG has always put out knives that are both modern and highly tactical. Following a CPM S35VN and D2 version of the brand’s Terminus XR, the EDC fan-favorite folding knife has now gotten a critical upgrade that not only gets some new specs, but looks great.
Tactically minded, the straight-edged Terminus XR Damascus features the flagship knife’s smooth-operating ambidextrous XR locking mechanism and three different ways to open. You can get to your blade with either hand using the XR lock release, a kick assist via the flipper tap, or the thumb stud, the latter two of which are aided by a ball bearing pivot. The Damascus blade uses 10Cr15CoMoV steel — the Chinese equivalent of Japanese VG10 — giving the metal its polished look, but also allowing it to be incredibly corrosion-resistant.
Inspired by the forged swords of Near East swordsmiths during the Middle Ages, the knife’s Damascus finish gives the blade the appearance of flowing water. At just over 3 ounces, the black handle is lightweight thanks to its carbon fiber and G10 scales. The knife also sports a deep, reversible pocket clip for further ambidexterity and is positioned for tip-up carry. When fully extended, the knife stretches 7.21″, with nearly 3 of those inches coming from the Damascus blade itself. When closed, it measures 4.26″.
Able to withstand 1,500lbs of force, SOG’s latest folding knife is incredibly durable and reliable, making this the perfect go-to EDC pocket knife for your collection. The Terminus XR Damascus is available now via BladeHQ for $100.
