REC Taps Gunther Werks for a Pair of Stunning Porsche-Infused Timepieces

Presented by

All too often, watch enthusiasts will buy a spendy retro-styled racing chronograph hoping to cater to some sort of inner automotive nostalgia. But here’s the thing: while those watches may imitate icons, their significance is only in name.

REC Watches’ timepieces, however, actually contain elements of significant automotive history. Just take The 901 GW Collection, for example. Comprised of the 901 GW Exoskeleton and the 901 GW Chelsea, each watch is made using carbon fiber sourced from one of Gunther Werks’ legendary Porsche projects. In the case of the former, REC Watches recycled bodywork from the ‘Carbon Exoskeleton’ build — the only fully exposed carbon fiber 993 to ever leave the Gunther Werks shop. Done up with a blue chapter ring, an orange secondhand, and a matching subdial, it looks to be every part its namesake. The latter watch, on the other hand, incorporates repurposed carbon fiber from Gunther Werks’ first-ever customer commission: ‘Chelsea Grey.’ Finished in cool grey with subtle red accents on the crown and around the dial, it makes for a beautifully understated homage. And that’s not all; with both watches, you’re also getting plenty of other Porsche-inspired details, including a bezel modeled after the headlights, a strap stitched like the upholstery, as well as a case back engraved with a Gunther Werks engine cover.

Housed in 44mm six-piece stainless steel cases, they each come with a Swiss-made SELLITA SW510 B automatic movement and 50 meters of water resistance. You can buy them now for $2,495 apiece, with the 901 GW Exoskeleton being limited to just 188 examples pieces and the 901 GW Chelsea some 232.

Purchase: $2,495
