Founded by the inventor of the self-winding watch, Perrelet is no stranger to innovative timepieces, and its latest example shows that off with flying colors. In this instance, we mean it literally, as the nearly-250-year-old watchmaker’s high-tech Turbine Rainbow is accented by all eight shades of the spectrum of light.
Somehow, Perrelet’s Turbine Rainbow bridges the gap between rugged and colorful. Taking cues from a traditional turbine, the horologist mated the timepiece’s stark black dial to a matching black anodized aluminum propeller, laid atop an eye-popping rainbow colored sub-dial covered in a series of small dots – a “drip painting” pattern technique made famous by Jackson Pollock. Additionally, each dot also glows in matching-colored Super-Luminova. This is a direct contrast to its sturdy “high-tech case” composition, highlighted by a central body crafted of polycarbonate and ultra light carbon fiber. It paves the way for thermal insulation and trusty resistance against chemical agents. The sleek case is rounded out with flat bezeling stainless steel that garners a rugged, matte PVD coating.
As far as functionality is concerned, the exclusive watch features 100m water resistance, and is powered by the boutique’s signature Calibre P-331-MH, an automatic movement that boasts a 42-hour power reserve. The timepiece is then finished off with a black calf leather strap designed for all day comfort.
The head-turning Turbine Rainbow is limited to 50 examples, and it is currently available on Perrelet’s web shop for $4,950.
