In continuous operation since 1755 — the oldest of its Swiss contemporaries — Vacheron Constantin proves time and time again why it’s one of the most revered watchmakers in the world. Debuting in 2018, its Fiftysix collection aspires to tap into its own mid-century legacy, with design cues pastiched from one of its very first automatic calibers, the Ref. 6073 dress watch from 1956, but with a firm eye on aesthetic attainability and modern watchmaking conventions as well.
Online style curator MR PORTER has a broad range of Vacheron’s Fiftysix models in stock and these are our favorite pieces from the collection.
Vacheron Constantin FiftySix Automatic Brown Dial
With a streamlined aesthetic and a classy sepia brown dial with a railroad-style inside track, this Fiftysix Automatic watch is housed in a 40mm case made from 18k pink gold and runs on a caliber 1326 self-winding movement with a date window. Paired with a brown leather strap, the watch boasts a warmer aesthetic compared to many of the other straightforward dress watches you’ll find.
Vacheron Constantin FiftySix Automatic Complete Calendar Navy Dial
Sleek and understated, Vacheron Constantin’s Fiftysix Complete Calendar with a navy blue dial and 40mm stainless steel case is decidedly less dressy than the others in the collection. The in-house caliber 2460 QCL/1 automatic movement offers a day and date, along with a moon phase indicator in its usual color, which just so happens to match that of the dial itself. Additionally, a fourth hand points to the day of the month along the outer dial.
Vacheron Constantin FiftySix Day-Date Limited Edition
Adjacent to the Complete Calendar is the Day-Date, also debuting with the Fiftysix collection back in 2018. This silver dial iteration pairs elegantly with its brown alligator strap and 18k pink gold case, housing an in-house caliber 2475 SC/2 movement. Along the edge of the 40mm case are recessed pushers allowing the wearer to adjust the day and date on the dial, displayed on two small registers at the 3 and 9 o’clock spot, with a power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock.
Vacheron Constantin FiftySix Automatic Complete Calendar Silver Dial
In 2018, Vacheron Constantin debuted the Fiftysix collection with this very iteration of its Complete Calendar watch, sporting an 18k pink gold case and an attractive silver dial. If you look at the back, you’ll notice the in-house 2460 QCL/1 movement exposed through the sapphire crystal. Boasting 40 hours of power reserve, the automatic caliber runs the day and date functions, as well as the moon phase indicator. Just like the navy dial version, the fourth hand points to the calendar day along the outer dial.
Vacheron Constantin FiftySix Automatic Tourbillon
Despite the relative accessibility of the Fiftysix lineup, the self-winding Tourbillon is understandably at the top end, as it would be in any collection. As far as tourbillons go, this particular version from Vacheron is still visually more approachable with its Arabic numerals and lumed hands. Then there’s the attractive sector dial in silver opaline and a tourbillon cage that sports a rotating version of the brand’s signature Maltese cross. Housing the caliber 2160/1 movement, visible through the sapphire caseback, the 18k pink gold case is slightly larger than the pack at 41mm.
