There are a lot of reasons one might have for picking up a new knife. That includes things like your old knife breaking, a long-awaited release that’s finally available for purchase, your current collection is missing a blade that serves a specific purpose, or even just that you’re an avid collector always looking to add new, interesting options to your arsenal. Thankfully, whatever the case, knifemakers are pretty consistently pumping out new blades for all your everyday carry, tactical, outdoor, camping, hiking, kitchen, etc. needs. You just need to know when and where to look. That’s where we come in with this new series outlining our favorite fresh knives of a given month. The following five selections comprise our picks for the best new knives of July 2020.
CIVIVI x Ferrum Forge Odium Folding Knife
A beautiful and sleek EDC collaboration between the folks at CIVIVI and Ferrum Forge, the Odium looks and performs well above its weight class. Not only are the design lines of its drop point blade and natural G-10 handle beautiful, but the D2 tool steel used to craft the blade promises a long life of usefulness and the flipper opening makes for quick access in any situation.

CRKT Jumbones Folding Knife
A beefier and more blacked-out version of designer Jeff Park’s spectacular Crossbones design, the CRKT Jumbones is a much larger full-sized take for those who prefer bigger blades in their EDC loadout. This new version also boasts a reliable and easy-to-sharpen AUS-8 blade, a black-anodized aluminum handle, and Flavio Ikoma’s buttery-smooth IKBS ball bearing pivot system.

GiantMouse GMF2 Fixed Blade
A true melding of the minds, GiantMouse is the beautiful and brilliant brainchild of storied knife designers Jens Anso and Jesper Voxnaes. And while they offer a suite of superb folding blades, we’re amped on their camping-ready, outdoor-focused GMF2 fixed blade you see here. With a unique silhouette reminiscent of traditional Scandinavian puukko knives, this versatile tool has a grippy canvas Micarta handle, a high-end Bohler M390 blade, and even has a lanyard attachment point at the base of the handle.

Blade Length: 3.625″
Total Length: 8.125″

Spyderco Paramilitary 2 Tanto Knife
The Spyderco Paramilitary 2 is undoubtedly one of the all-time best folding knives. And while we love the iconic leaf shape of its standard blade, there’s no denying what a spectacularly inspired design choice it was to create one with an even more aggressive tanto blade shape. Of course, you still get all the other fantastic bits, as well — like a G10 handle, CPM-S30V blade steel, and (of course) the brand’s incomparable Compression lock.
Blade: CPM-S30V
Handle: G-10
Blade Length: 3.50″
Total Length: 8.25″
Type: Tactical EDC Folder
Benchmade 9400 Osborne Automatic
Originally designed by master knifemaker Warren Osborne, the Benchmade 9400 is certainly one of the most iconic and impressive folding blades offered by the brand. However, it just got a huge speed boost in the form of a push-button automatic deployment. That means, when you’ve got your hand gripped around its anodized aluminum handle, you can gain access to its CPM-S30V reverse tanto blade in the span of a millisecond — and it can be closed again just as quickly when you’re done using it.
Blade: CPM-S30V
Handle: Aluminum
Blade Length: 3.40″
Total Length: 7.87″
