In 1941, the experimental age of television was officially over as the newly-established FCC granted permission for networks to begin commercial advertising. The first ad came in July of that year during a game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies. It reportedly cost less than $10, was paid for by Bulova Watches, and featured a voice announcing the time while the second hand ticked by on a clock shaped like a test pattern. However, the first electronic TV set existed in 1927. After that, early boxes were made from wood and often trimmed with brass or something similar. Today’s EDC layout celebrates the very early stages of television in the ‘40s and the iconic units on which it aired.
