Porsche Teases an Ultra-High-Performance, Range-Topping 911 GT3 RS

Starting with the 996 GT3 in 1999, Porsche’s 911 GT3 models are high-performance homologation specials built specifically for competing in the FIA GT3 cup. And while the GT3-spec already represented the most capable factory-built 911s, the Stuttgart firm has now announced an even faster and more high-performance version of the sportscar with the all-new Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

Touted by Porsche as being the “big brother” to the existing 911 GT3, the RS-spec model takes inspiration from Porsche’s 911 RSR and 911 GT3 R racers, with the car gaining a full aero kit and a host of track-grade running gear. Porsche hasn’t yet revealed the car’s 0-60mph time or top speed, though considering the fact the GT3 RS will pack a 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine with 500hp on tap, we expect some impressive numbers.

The chassis on the Porsche 911 GT3 RS has also been reinforced, readying the car for the greater loads it will take while out on the circuit. And, just like existing GT3 models, the GT3 RS will be eligible for track days as well as competition in GT3 Club racing. It’s also unclear whether or not the RS-spec 911 GT3 will boast road-legal status or if its use will be exclusively reserved for the race track.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is slated for an official reveal on August 17th, at which time pricing, availability, and a full spec sheet are expected to be released.
