Donkervoort’s F22 Is a Carbon-Framed, 1,650-LB, 500-HP Roadster

Founded towards the tail-end of the 1970s, Donkervoort is a boutique Dutch outfit that produces handmade, lightweight roadsters and true drivers cars. Despite being rooted in tradition, the Lelystad-based brand continues to produce thoroughly modern and cutting-edge automobiles — the latest of which to break cover is the all-new Donkervoort F22.

Marking Donkervoort’s first completely novel model in over a decade, the F22 is constructed around an all-new hybrid chassis that’s crafted from a combination of tubular steel and Ex-Core carbon — a “sandwiched” carbon structure with twice the torsional rigidity of the F22’s predecessor, along with improved safety. Powering the car is a front mid-mounted Audi-sourced turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-five engine — the same mill used in the current RS 3 and TT RS — that cranks out nearly 500hp and 472ft-lbs of torque. Kept in check via adjustable traction control and optional race ABS, these power figures ultimately enable the F22 to achieve a top speed of 180mph, along with a 0-60mph time of under 2.5 seconds, a 0-125mph time just shy of 7.5 seconds, and the ability to pull 2.15Gs of lateral acceleration in the corners. Also backed by a Torsen limited-slip differential, the engine is mated to a five-speed TKX manual short-throw transmission that sends power to a rear-wheel drive setup.

Running gear on the F22 is all of the top-of-the-line race-spec variety, and includes AP Racing quad-piston calipers front and aft, a double wishbone suspension setup with adaptive shock absorbers with electronic valve control damping, and an adjustable hydraulic ride-height system that allows the car to be raised or lowered by up to 1.377”. Touted as “the lightest supercar in the world,” the F22 features razor-sharp handling that’s largely owed to its immensely svelte curb weight of just 1,650lbs — some 750lbs lighter than the latest Mazda Miata.  Standard equipment on the F22 also includes butterfly doors, removable carbon-fiber Twin Targa roof panels with a reinforcement bar, a Donkervoort R&D steering wheel, an integrated 6’’ PDM color display, and carbon fiber race seats with black fabric TracTive adaptive shock absorbers and six-point harnesses.

Limited to just 75 units worldwide, the 2023 Donkervoort F22 Supercar is available for order now, with pricing starting at €245.000 (~ $257,745).
