With the climate crisis at the center of practically every forum, virtually every industry has had to take notice of it and adapt. For automakers, this adaptation comes in the form of adhering to strict emissions standards that are being enforced throughout the world. While these emissions standards are great for the planet and have ushered in a new wave of innovation, it also means we have to bid farewell to some of our favorite combustion engines. For iconic automaker Aston Martin, this means giving its V12 Vantage one lost hurrah before the V12 engine ultimately becomes a relic of the past.

On its official Instagram account, Aston Martin finally dropped a teaser image of the swansong model of the V12 Vantage. While we’ve been expecting this bittersweet announcement to come for a while, it’s still a hard pill to swallow. The post, while mostly obscured by shadow, shows the elegant front of the final V12 Vantage, as well as the other two V12 Vantages behind it. Moreover, the post was captioned with the hashtag #NeverLeaveQuietly, which was a nod to the teaser of the press release Aston Martin released earlier this month that included an audio clip of the V12 revving its beastly engine. As much as it pains us to say, it just makes sense that the famed British automaker would be putting its 12-cylinder supercar to sleep with carbon emission standards becoming stricter and stricter seemingly by the day, making it too costly to continually try and develop these massive petrol engines to meet them.

Aston Martin has yet to release any performance specs, pricing information, or even a defined 2022 release window for its final V12 Vantage. That said, it’s likely they will be outfitting the final V12 Vantage with the same 5.2L twin-turbocharged V12 that the DBS Superleggera and the Vantage-inspired V12 Speedster have under their elongated hoods.
