Founded by a pair of former Alfa and Ferrari engineers, Autodelta was a race and tuning shop that became Alfa Romeo’s official competition division in 1963. Over the next several decades Autodelta produced small batches of factory-built race cars — one of which was the Group 2-spec Alfetta GT. Despite being incredibly rare, one of the nine Alfetta GTs built for the 1975 race season has recently surfaced for sale.

Created as a grand touring version of the Alfetta, this factory-built racer is one of only two known surviving examples of the Alfetta GT GR.2 — and the only known specimen in this original factory color (with the other being adorned in Alfa’s signature Rosso Red). This very car was campaigned by Francesco “Chicco” Svizzero — an official Alfa Romeo factory team driver in 1974 and 1975 — alongside his teammates Amilcare Ballestrieri and Jean-Claude Andruet. The Group 2 racer made its competition debut at the Costa Brava rally in February of 1975 — just prior to Alfa pulling the plug on its factory rally racing efforts shortly thereafter.

Powered by a 1.8-liter inline-four engine fed via a quad Dellorto carburetor setup and mated to a five-speed Autodelta gearbox, this Group 2 racer was equipped with self-ventilated Lockheed brakes, Koni shocks, a 50% self-locking differential, magnesium Campagnolo wheels, and ultra-flared bodywork with stretched fenders to accommodate the rally racer’s larger wheels and additional suspension travel, plus rear-wheel scoops that helped to cool the car’s rear brakes. The Alfa’s regular quad headlight arrangement was also supplemented via an additional four-unit Carello Megalux light pod mounted on the hood and front fender. In addition to a full roll-cage, the racer’s gutted and lightened interior also featured an Autodelta intercom system, race seats with four-point Sabelt harnesses, a floor-mounted Sparco fire extinguisher, and a three-spoke steering wheel.

This ex-Chicco Svizzero 1975 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT GR.2 is currently for sale through Ruote Da Sogno in Reggio Emilia, Italy where the factory racer’s price is available upon request. The sale of this Alfa also includes ample documentation and period photographs of the vehicle being raced.
