Yamaha has long been an important force in the audio realm, though traditionally the Tuning Fork Company has operated in the mid-tier space, which is what makes the debut of the Japanese brand’s latest $500 headphone release so noteworthy.
Christened the YH-L700A, this new wireless over-ear ANC headphone model features what Yamaha calls “3D Sound Field with Head Tracking,” which is capable of recognizing where sound is emitting from in order to re-orientate sound waves on the fly. What’s more, the headphone’s use of embedded microphones allows these ANC over-ear shells to scan their environment every 20 seconds in order to analyze factors such as seal and air leakage in order to optimize sound no matter where the listener finds themselves. Additionally, the YH-L700A also gets Yamaha-exclusive Active Noise-Cancelling technology, an ambient sound mode, an intelligent active EQ, Siri and Google Assistant compatibility, Bluetooth 5 connectivity with aptX Adaptive, and a whopping 34 hours of battery life while using ANC (or 11 hours of playback while using both ANC and Sound Field). Available now, Yamaha’s YH-L700A Wireless Noise-Cancelling Headphones with 3D Sound are priced at $500.
