As more global electronics manufacturers continue to come out with state-of-the-art foldable smartphones, one thing has been made abundantly clear: a hinged design alone isn’t enough to set you apart from the competition. For, as these devices increase in their commonality, the extra screen size will become a feature that’s expected rather than one that’s cutting-edge.
Ever innovator of the tech market, China’s Xioami has just announced its initial foray into folding phones, the ‘Mi MIX FOLD.’ Much more than a cheap party trick, it comes packed with industry firsts like a massive 8.01” WQHD+ resolution OLED display, a Harman Kardon quad-speaker setup, as well as an 8MP liquid lens camera capable of 3X optical zoom, 30X telephoto, and a minimum focus distance of 3cm (1.2in). In practice, this means that it offers 600 nits of brightness, support for Dolby Vision HDR, and a 90Hz refresh rate. And that’s not all — because of its unique U-shaped hinge, the Mi MIX FOLD comes in some 27% lighter than others like it. Add to that a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G processor with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage and the result is a phone whose prowess speaks for itself. It’s available for pre-order in China starting at $1,530.
