The Bridge on the River Kwai is one of the greatest war movies of all time, but up until now, even the most fervent of fans probably had no desire to go see the sights that inspired the film in in Western Thailand.

The X2 River Kwai resort changes all that, as this hotel is located on the most beautiful stretch of the Kwai Noi River, with a majestic mountain backdrop, stretching across more than 3,000 square meters. Designed by Agaligo Studio, this unique and eco-friendly site was built with locally sourced materials and recycled parts, so while you might do a double take when looking at the exterior, the interior is finished quite nicely. The conservation carries over into the rooms, as each one is equipped with an electrical key that cuts off the electricity when the guest leaves the room. There’s a restaurant, outdoor deck, library, infinity swimming pool, and of course, the surrounding real-life history.
