Winston Churchill’s Land Rover Series 1
Known for his dogged demeanor and epigrammatic wit, no vehicle suited the tough, cigar-smoking Sir Winston Churchill more than the militant but urbane Series 1 Land Rover. After a deep clean and epic restoration, the Land Rover owned by the stalwart Prime Minister can be perceived in its original majesty.
Sir Winston received the Land Rover on his 80th birthday as a present, and though he preferred not to drive, his chauffeur frequently ferried Churchill back and forth from his Chartwell estate in Kent in the green Series 1. A car befitting a military man – Churchill was a cavalry man in his youth, and more famously the stolid commander of the British forces in WWII – the Land Rover had dust caked on like flak when it was first dredged up from a shed in Kent. After it was sold at auction in 2012, Emily Frey Classics car restoration was hired to restore the vehicle to its original, knightly glory. You can see for yourself the beautiful refurbishment job they did by visiting the Classic Center in Switzerland, and take a look inside the car that belonged to the British Bulldog himself.
