Aviation-inspired jackets are a dime a dozen, making the prospect of yet another leather-clad example seem all-the-less exciting. But following the announcement of Tom Cruise’s generational sequel to Top Gun, one of the most iconic military of all time, W.H. Ranch Dungarees’ founder, Ryan Martin, felt a pang of inspiration.
To commemorate the upcoming sequel, the high-end denim designer is releasing a year-round, Western-style flight jacket dubbed the VF-1 Ghost Ryder. This bespoke garment features all of the artisanal attributes we’ve come to expect from Martin, including single-needle stitching, hand-felled riser seams, a genuine, rust-colored mouton shearling collar, and USA-made Cone Mills 13-ounce tight weave bull denim. On the outerwear’s exterior, you’ll find a handful of aviation-inspired patches that pay homage to the original Maverick flight jacket, alongside metal Navy Anchor buttons that were made by a sixth-generation metal stamping factory in France. Since Martin is taking it upon himself to create all of the pieces by hand, only six will ever be released, so head over to the W.H. Ranch Dungarees website to secure your own for just $995.
