With companies like Space X and Virgin Galactic trying to bring out-of-this-world commercial travel into the realm of possibility, it seems more and more like off-planet escapades may be in our very near future. And, to really make the most of the experience, the folks at 4 Pines Brewing and Australian firm Saber Astronautics have joined together to create the world’s first beer to be enjoyed in space.

Called Vostok Space Beer (named after the first manned extraterrestrial mission), this Irish stout-like brew was created specifically with a zero-g environment in mind – meaning they’ve taken into account changes in the human body like swelling of the tongue and loss of taste. They also designed a special bottle that wicks beer from base to neck, so as to ensure that you can get every last drop of delicious brew out of it without the assistance of gravity. The project is live on IndieGoGo now starting at a price of $279 (though for $40,000 you can actually drink the beer on its maiden zero-g flight).
