Volvo & Casca Apply Slick Looks & Sustainability To Eco-Conscious Kicks

Each year since 2000, cities around the world have celebrated World Car Free Day on September 22nd. Organized in an effort to promote public transport and encourage sustainable mobility, the holiday has provided valuable insight into what life would be like with fewer vehicles on the road. In the midst of a mounting climate crisis, then, the occasion makes for a breath of fresh air.

For World Car Free Day 2022, Volvo has teamed up with Canadian footwear specialist Casca on a pair of limited edition Kör Knit sneakers. Inspired by the XC40 Recharge, they pair automotive influence with planet-conscious materials in a package that’s sleek, understated, and sustainable as can be. The upper, for instance, features a combination of vegan micro-suede and recycled PET yarns. In addition to mimicking the XC40’s hammer-styled headlights, it also saves some seven plastic bottles from going to landfills. The sole, too, offers an exercise in eco-friendly design, incorporating repurposed car tires for a speckled gum look. Accented by Scandanavian details like a Swedish flag tag and a Volvo-logoed heel counter, they even sport a pair of custom co-branded Casca insoles. You can buy the Kör Knit now starting at $168, with the option to upgrade to SmartFit for a further $65.
