Volkswagen has unveiled their newest creation, the Tiguan GTA Active, a plug-in hybrid, all-wheel drive crossover SUV that has two electric motors and a gasoline engine.
The crossover, which is based on the second-generation Tiguan, is built for extreme off-roading, and it features a six-speed dual-clutch transmission that’s powered by a turbocharged TSI four cylinder engine that pushes out 148 hp. The electric motors add 54 hp at the front wheels and 114 in the rear, bringing them total system power up to 221 hp. The vehicle is able to travel up to 20 miles in zero-emissions electric mode on a single charge. Also unique to the SUV is its easily replaceable front and rear skid plates. As far as the tires are concerned, it uses 16-inch wheels with ultra thick 245/70 tread that are intended for off-roading. It also uses a gesture control-enabled infotainment system.
