Volkswagen Unveils Its Aerodynamic Low-Drag ID.4 All-Electric SUV Design
Earlier this year, Volkswagen’s all-new electric crossover SUV, the ID.4, leaked to the public. After months of waiting, we’ve finally caught a glimpse of what the production platform might actually look like — a sleek, sporty offering with an aerodynamic exterior tailored toward minimal drag.
When VW took to the drawing board to create the all-electric ID.4, it was clear what they wanted to achieve. The platform needed to place adequate functionality above all else, while retaining the brand’s stylish design terminology. As a result, the crossover has adopted a large rear spoiler, shortened roof overhangs, a raked windshield, and a centralized battery system, allowing it to travel further than its competitors due to its impressive 0.28 drag coefficient. While information is still scarce, the ID.4 will utilize VW’s MEB architecture, calling upon dual electric motors to help it reach its proposed 310 miles of range, and produce a combined 302 horsepower. Head to Volkswagen’s website for more information on the upcoming platform.
