In what could be one of the most remarkable comebacks in the automotive world to date, Volkswagen appears to be considering a rendition of the famed VW Bus from the gone-but-not-forgotten hippie era. Except this time, the concept -dubbed the I.D. Buzz- certainly appears better suited for the 21st-century lifestyle, however nomadic that may be.
The fully electric concept, powered by two electric motors, provide the little bus with 369 horsepower while the 111-kWh battery pack gives the ride up to 270 miles of range per charge. It hits 0-60 in a surprisingly quick five seconds and reaches a top speed of 99 mph. The I.D. Buzz also comes with autonomous driving capabilities via laser scanners, cameras, and ultrasonic and radar sensors around the body. And of course this wouldn’t be a proper rendition if it wasn’t large enough to accommodate up to eight passengers across three rows of seats, while the front two seats can swing around 180 degrees when autopilot is engaged to create an engaging atmosphere for all. More info if available through Volkswagen themselves, and given the green light, we could be seeing the I.D. Buzz hit dealerships come 2021. No word on pricing just yet.
