The Volkswagen Golf GTI is already one of the most desirable hot hatches ever, having practically invented the segment, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be improved upon. And that’s exactly what German tuner MANHART Performance has done with their Golf GTI 290.
The MANHART Golf GTI 290 adds a number of upgrades to the eighth-gen GTI’s already solid performance and appearance. For the former, MANHART added their in-house MHtronik module to the car’s turbocharged 2.0 L four-cylinder engine, boosting the horsepower from 245 to 290 (hence the name) and the torque from 273 lb-ft to 313 lb-ft. The body has been lowered 40mm thanks to the addition of H&R springs, which makes the car look extra sleek when paired with MANHART’s silk matte black Venturi-style 19” wheels. A custom red-striped rear diffuser brings sharp looks and improved aerodynamics, while the addition of MANHART’s LED-infused starry Sky Roof adds a heightened sense of luxury to the interior.
