Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE Concept
Volkswagen’s new US design language is clearly evident in its new midsize SUV concept, just one of three concepts VW is looking to start production on.
Dubbed the Cross Coupé GTE, this boxy five-seater is a plug-in hybrid with all-wheel drive that gets powered by a 3.6 V-6 engine that puts out 276 horsepower. 0 to 60 will reportedly happen in a pretty solid 6 seconds, with the top speed at 130 mph. A 6-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission will offer four driving modes including On-road, Off-road, Sport, and Snow, and VW says you’ll get the equivalent of 70 miles per gallon with the GTE. Aesthetically there’s a lot going on here, with that offbeat shape, dual exhaust pipes mounted in the bumper, a large glass sunroof that stretches along the entire length of the car, and four “LED light wings.” Inside you’ll be enjoying a whopping 10.1-inch touchscreen in the center console, featuring proximity sensors and gesture control that let either the driver or passenger browse and play music with air swipes.
