Say hello to the C Coupe GTE, Volkswagen’s new plug-in hybrid concept car that the German automaker says is a sign of the company’s future, or at least where it concerns large sedans designed specifically for the Chinese market as this one is.

Performance-wise the C Coupe GTE does 0-60 in 8.6 seconds with a top speed of 144 mph, and while that’s not going to excite anyone, the 684-mile range might, thanks to the plug-in hybrid system featuring a four-cylinder turbocharged engine and an electric motor mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Also of note is the elegant interior which treats backseat passengers quite well, with a center console featuring 4.5″ screens that control seat position and climate while 9.5″ displays can be controlled via smartphone or tablet.
