Though we’d all love to drop everything, buy a cargo van, and give it a full-on camper conversion, admittedly, such projects can be pretty cost-prohibitive. With this in mind, a New Zealand-based company by the name of VanLab has created a series of DIY kits to make adventure vehicles more accessible.
Designed to ship flat-packed and assemble à la a piece of IKEA furniture, each conversion kit comes with a set of step-by-step instructions and puzzle-like Birch plywood pieces. What’s more, all of the necessary tools and fittings are provided for, with the only thing you need to bring being a screwdriver. As far as the design itself is concerned, VanLab currently builds its kits with a modular full-size bed, a table, some integrated storage, as well as a kitchen worktop/cooking area. However, should you want to customize some of the pieces for yourself, the company also offers integrated wiring and various kitchen amenities through its online configurator. It’s currently available in small and large sizes — for the Nissan NV 200, the Chevy City Express, and the Ford Transit — with a medium on the way. You can buy one now starting at $3,999.
