This Unimatic Dive Timepiece Was Inspired By 1960s French Navy Watches

Last March, UNIMATIC and Massena LAB teamed up for the first time on a redux watch intended to reflect an old-school diver as it would look today. With its Rolex-like look — complete with embedded lume — it proved an instant hit and sold out in no time.

Eager to keep the momentum going, the two brands are back at it again with a second collaborative timepiece that takes its inspiration from its forebearers. It’s called the Massena LAB Marine, or U1-MLM for short, and it’s designed to look like a diver that the French Navy would have used during the 1960s. In addition to a 41.5mm stainless steel case, the watch features a brilliant blue dial with a matching bezel insert and NATO strap — a combination that cuts quite the classic aesthetic. Powered by a 24-jewel Seiko NH35 automatic movement with a 41-hour power reserve, it also includes a double-domed sapphire crystal and a closed steel back rated to a depth 300M (984ft). Limited to 200 pieces, each watch features a face with a distinctly different shade of blue. You can buy the U1-MLM on Massena LAB’s website for $895.
