TSA Canine Adoption Program
It’s news to nobody that government agencies employ dogs to help with some of their most dangerous and important work. However, it’s less well-known what happens to those dogs when the time comes to retire or that not all of them even make it through training and into service. As it turns out, however, the TSA has started a program to adopt out those very animals to loving forever homes.
The process is actually quite simple, though perhaps a bit tedious — which we imagine has to at least somewhat be on purpose to weed out anyone undeserving of these wonderful pups. As outlined on their site, you must meet a few simple requirements — a fenced-in yard, a stable living situation, if you have other animals they must be vaccinated, etc. If you meet those expectations, you can then fill out an application. Following your approval, the agency will send you available dogs, who you can then fly out to meet in San Antonio, Texas (sometimes over multiple visits to ensure the match is right) before finally adopting and bringing your new family member home. All dogs deserve a good home, but these are certainly some of the most deserving out there.
