Toyota GR Super Sport Concept
While performance-focused sub-divisions such as Mercedes-AMG, BMW M, Fiat Abarth, and Nissan Nismo have been around for long enough that they are well-known even outside of the car world, Toyota’s Gazoo Racing is brand-spanking-new. But that hasn’t stopped them from making big moves, as evidenced by the announcement of their GR Super Sport concept hypercar.
Unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon (Japan’s version of SEMA), this monstrous sports car is said to be powered by a mid-mounted, twin-turbo 2.4-liter direct-injection V6 engine – part of a THS-R hybrid system – with a horsepower output of up to 986. And while those figures are certainly impressive, the release actually means a lot more for Toyota. Namely that their future is hinging on hybridization across all facets of their automotive development. If it comes to fruition as a production vehicle, the GR Super Sport will be street legal and, as you might expect, a high price to match.
