Toyota FT-4X Concept
Built out for city dwellers looking for a compact yet highly capable weekend off-road vehicle, Toyota revealed their FT-4X concept SUV at this year’s New York International Auto Show. Motivation for the build comes in part by the millennial migration into urban centers in conjunction with their collective interest in “weekend getaways.” Kudos to Toyota for keeping up with the times.
Within the compact design lies several outdoor-friendly features that make this ride a desirable option for those weekend warriors. We’re talking a rear hatch that can open both horizontally and vertically, tie-down hooks on both the bumpers and roof, color-coded storage boxes, and a spacious cargo area for ample gear. There’s also a North Face sleeping bag that fits comfortably between the two front seats, tie-down hooks along the side of the rear’s cargo hold, door handles that can serve as water bottles, USB outlets in the armrests, a ceiling-mounted removable flashlight, a GoPro Hero5 Session camera built into the driver’s side rearview mirror, and an exterior dome light. You can also remove the stereo system for a little outdoor entertainment by the fire. It’s believed the whole vehicle will be powered by a small displacement four-cylinder engine with mechanical 4WD as well while a double wishbone rear suspension allows for a smooth ride over rocks and potholes. All told, it’s a nifty little weekender ride that’s for sure. No word on pricing or release date just yet.
