TOPS’ ‘High Impact’ Hybrid Axe Brilliantly Blends A Hatchet With A Wood Splitter

Both full-size splitters and small single-hand hatchets offer their own unique strengths and advantages, though it would be hard to argue that one could easily replace the duties of the other. In a bid to deliver a more versatile, do-it-all outdoor axe, the folks over at TOPS Knives have created the hybrid-style High Impact axe.

Designed by Leo Espinoza, the axe features a full-tang construction and is crafted from 1075 high carbon steel that’s treated to a black traction coating, rated at up to 58 on the HRC scale, sports a curved 5.75” bladed head, and is mated to tan Micarta handles. Tipping the scales at 3.675lbs, the High Impact — as its name suggests — has plenty of weight behind it for splitting wood or using the dull-end as a hammer, and, at 0.380″ thick and 20” in length, this TOPS axe is almost certainly the largest full-tang hatchet currently on the market. The axe comes paired with an included 2.8oz brown leather sheath that’s reinforced via double-stitched construction. Available for order now, TOPS Knives High Impact hatchet is priced at $290.
