Over 30 years have passed since we first saw Tom Cruise take to the skies in the original Top Gun. But after all that time — and numerous delays — we’re finally getting a good look what ace pilot Pete Mitchell has been up to since his time at the Naval Fighter Weapons School in Miramar, California in the first trailer for Top Gun: Maverick.

This long-awaited sequel to the 1980s blockbuster takes up nearly three-and-a-half decades since the events of the first film, with Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell up to his same old tricks. In fact, he’s passed up promotion after promotion to remain in the seat of a fighter jet. Now, however, he’s tasked with teaching the next round of recruits at the famous TOPGUN school — including the headstrong son of his late wingman, Nick “Goose” Bradshaw. Alongside Cruise, Val Kilmer is set to reprise his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky and the cast is joined by Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, Jon Hamm, and Ed Harris. Top Gun: Maverick will hit theaters on June 28th, 2020.
