Since debuting in early 2021, the Tissot PRX has been one of the hottest watch releases of the year. The 40mm timepiece boasts a ‘70s-inspired integrated bracelet design and excellent finishing, offering a high-end look at a bargain price. But some collectors were put off by the watch’s quartz movement, wishing for a time when it would be available in an automatic. Well, that day has come, as Tissot has officially launched the PRX Powermatic 80.
The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 will be familiar to fans of the quartz PRX. The case and bracelet design are largely the same, with the only differences being in the case thickness and the overall weight. The automatic version measures 10.9mm thick, whereas the quartz is 10.4mm thick, and it weighs 138 grams compared to 130 grams on the quartz. The slight boosts in thickness and weight can be attributed to the mechanical movement, a happy trade-off for purists as the watch remains very svelte. An exhibition caseback has also been added to show off the decorated Powermatic 80 movement with its impressive 80-hour power reserve and anti-magnetic Nivachron balance spring. Finally, the dial is different on the automatic, with a new waffle-like “Swiss chocolate bar” pattern. The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 is available now for $650 in black or blue, or $675 in silver with rose gold PVD accents.
