After being acknowledged with numerous game of the year awards back in 2015, the admiration for The Witcher III: Wild Hunt has been ceaseless. This is further proven by the fact that the game will even see a release on next-gen consoles in 2022 — eight years removed from its initial release. Popularity remains on its side, which is ultimately topped off with the first full trailer for Netflix’s second season of their series adaptation of the renowned collection of books-turned-video games.
Geralt of Rivia, portrayed by the Superman of today in Henry Cavill, looks to prove that his sword is far mightier than the pen, as the entirety of his world is aiming for war, with the only hope to be saved resting with him and Ciri, the heroine parallel to the mystical beast hunter. Through long horse rides playing in the foreground of reverie-esque backdrops and epic battle scenes with eye-bogglingly large monsters, Kanye West’s bombastic “Monster” makes for a beyond-fitting backing track to the thrilling trailer. Fans can also surely look forward to the upcoming season tying up some of the loose ends caused by the series’ first season in 2019.
While the show’s initial run earned some criticism for its non-linear storytelling, those who admire the games and novels enough will surely look forward to a potential recapturing of the same excitement that The Witcher‘s other branches of media have brought to light in the new episodes. Season 2 of The Witcher premieres on December 17, exclusively on Netflix.
