Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantastical Witcher series has left its mark on fantasy-loving fans, boasting one of the most successful (and well-adapted) franchises in recent memory. In fact, the debut of the series’ third installment was so highly lauded, it garnered the prestigious title of Game Of The Year in 2016. As it turns out, the dominative series isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon — and, if Netflix’s newly-released series trailer is anything to go by, we’re in for a commendable amount of monster killing.
In Netflix’s upcoming series, Henry Cavill plays the story’s main character, Geralt of Rivia, alongside two of the game’s key protagonists, Freya Allan (Ciri), and Anya Chalotra (Yennefer). Monsters like the Striga and Kikimora are present within, providing the perfect adversaries for Geralt the White Wolf to show off his cunning sword skills. As Cavill battles minions throughout some of the game’s most recognizable locations — like Cintra, the Isle of Thanned, and the Dryad forest of Brokilon — we catch a glimpse of the sheer brutality, benevolence, and (at times), beauty, of Sapkowski’s fantasy-embued world. Look for The Witcher to premiere on Netflix in Q4 of 2019.
