The Shelter By Benjamin Springer

Benjamin Springer’s Shelter house is a remarkable visualization of a sophisticated lakeside retreat that’s beauty can only be matched by its seclusion. Taking inspiration from an image by photographer Michael Schauer, this minimalist glass structure with a grass roof relies on the lush green plants and sprawling mountains to provide ample privacy to the completely open one-bedroom structure that’s rooted in its water-filled canyon on stilts.

We’re particularly taken back by the combination of metal, wood, and glass in a home that’s only accessible by boat in a location we like to imagine can only be reached by helicopter. The bedroom’s hanging wood-burning fireplace adds just the right level of figurative and literal warmth to the minimal and modern design aesthetic. On a clear evening in the Pacific Northwest, relaxing on the open dock would make one feel like they were enjoying an unrivaled view from the center of the known universe.
