Perched on a foliage-covered rocky slope overlooking the Atlantic Ocean near São Paulo, Brazil, the Peninsula House is an inviting coast retreat with an abstract form, sharp angles, and three unique structures that combine to create a world-class living experience.
The home’s designers at Bernardes Arquitetura succeeded in their attempt to blend three disparate stacked structures — a rectangular base, triangular top floor, and a transparent space in-between that opens the home to stunning sun-lit views of the vast ocean. The upper triangle works to shade the lower levels from the sun to create ample outdoor entertainment space as well as more intimate areas for relaxation. The central level of the home offers an expansive and open living area filled with carefully-selected furniture from local designers, utilizing natural wood to add to the home’s simple yet elegant feel. The designer’s felt that the combination of disparate design elements would create tension between the upper and lower levels to visually connect with the natural landscape, creating a truly unique living experience for the owners.
