The Macallan has an almost 200-year history of producing fine Scotch whisky out of its facility in Speyside. One aspect of this 196-year-old tradition that’s gone unchanged is The Macallan’s sourcing of water from the nearby River Spey and its this element that the storied Scottish distillery is celebrating with its latest release, The Macallan Edition No. 6.
The Edition No. 6 marks the sixth and final release in a collection that first kicked off in 2015, each of which has highlighted different noteworthy parts of The Macallan estate. In an effort to preserve this vital water source for the next roughly 200 years, the Scottish firm has begun a new partnership with a charitable organization that seeks to conserve the river’s wildlife, namely its threatened population of wild Atlantic salmon. Boasting a 48.6% ABV, The Macallan Edition No. 6 carries a fruity aroma, palate, and finish, with hints of toffee, chocolate, toasted oats, oak, and vanilla mixed in along the way. Sold in a specially-labeled bottle inside a commemorative gift box, The Macallan Edition No. 6 is available now on a limited basis, with an MSRP of $150.
