We should’ve known it was only a matter of time before revolutionary electric car innovator Elon Musk turned the artificially intelligent humanoid robots of science fiction into reality.

Tesla has unveiled the Tesla Bot, an upcoming humanoid robot that’s designed to perform tasks that are considered too dangerous, repetitive, or boring for humans. The Tesla Bot stands 5’8” tall and weighs 125 lbs. It can deadlift 150 lbs., reach a top locomotive speed of 5 mph, carry 45 lbs., and lift 10 lbs. with its arms extended. These numbers were kept fairly modest as a sort of failsafe, as Musk is no doubt aware that these types of robots always rebel in the movies. We may not have to worry with this one, though, as Musk claims the robot is “intended to be friendly” (they always start out that way). Back to the specs, the Tesla Bot has a screen where it displays “useful information” in lieu of a face, along with eight cameras and the same autonomous driving tech found in Tesla’s cars. The Tesla Bot is at the concept stage currently, but Tesla hopes to unveil a working prototype next year.
