LG Display’s Media Chair Combines a Recliner with a 55″ Curved OLED Display

LG Display has previewed some of its upcoming concepts that will debut at CES 2022, and the Korean electronics giant is going all-in on futuristic display tech. Leading the way is a concept that will place you directly in the heart of your entertainment experience, as well as a pair of other new concepts that will thoroughly futurize your household.

As the ultimate entertainment center, the Seoul-based gadgeteers’ Media Chair is a recliner that boasts a curved 55″ OLED display with a curvature radius of 1,500R, which LG says is the optimal angle for viewing. Sound is provided via the brand’s internal Cinematic Sound OLED tech, which eschews external speakers in favor of a more realistic sound produced by the vibration of the display itself. On top of that, thanks to a control panel in its armrest, the display can be rotated between horizontal and vertical orientations at the user’s preference. While their Media Chair surely steals the show, the manufacturer’s newly revealed Virtual Ride and Transparent OLEDs remain impressive in their own right. The former combines a smart exercise bike with a vertically-stacked trio of curved 55-inch OLED displays in front of and above it, while the latter’s implementation looks to revolutionize everything from home shelving to office presentations to in-store shopping by incorporating transparent displays that overlay graphics and information over real-world objects and surfaces.

In all sincerity, few companies, if any, have as big a leg-up in next year’s tech race more than LG Display does at the moment. With one impressively sleek reveal after the other, we can only sit patiently until CES comes around to see what others have in store. Nevertheless, the brand is in for a big 2022.
