Located in Sequatchie Valley in Tennessee, just north of the Alabama and Georgia State lines, the Sweetens Cove Golf Club is a nine-hole, ranked and award-winning public course with an interesting tradition consisting of taking a shot of Tennessee whiskey prior to teeing off on the course for your first time. In 2009, the course was purchased by Peyton Manning and six of his friends (including tennis star Andy Roddick and musician Drew Holcomb) who treated to course to a full renovation and redesign.

Fast forward to today and the two-time Super Bowl champion and his pals are now celebrating this course tradition via the creation of a new whiskey operation, known as the Sweetens Valley Spirit Co. To kick off the endeavor the fledgling distillery is starting with a 100 barrel run of 13-year-old Tennessee bourbon with a proof of around 50% ABV. This translates to an initial 14,000 bottles, which are being separated into five separate groups before each of the five is slowly made available to the public over the next several months. Also of note is the distillery’s Master Blender, Marianne Eaves, who is an award-winning, highly-renowned force within the industry and Kentucky’s first female Bourbon master distiller since Prohibition.
