Anyone with even a tenuous grasp on the smartwatch sector is no doubt familiar with SUUNTO, as the Finnish firm unequivocally produces some of the most advanced and cutting-edge timepieces — a tradition that dates back to 1936 with the release of SUUNTO’s portable liquid-filled compass, the M-311. For 2021, the Vantaa-based business is continuing down this path of innovation with the debut of the new SUUNTO 9 Peak,
Touted as SUUNTO’s smallest and most rugged watch to date, the 9 Peak is 37% thinner and 36% lighter than its predecessors. Offered in stainless steel or Grade 5 titanium versions, the new Peak-spec retains all the noteworthy features of the original SUUNTO 9 such as an intelligent battery management system that allows for up to 170 hours of GPS use and recording capacity, over 80 dedicated sports modes, wrist-based heart rate monitoring, and customizable display screens. The new Peak models, however, also gain automatic backlight adjustment based on sun and lighting conditions, a redesigned watch strap with a metal fastening pin, twice-as-fast syncing speeds thanks to the use of Bluetooth 5 connectivity, an upgraded blood oxygen level measurement system, and quicker charging speeds that enable the SUUNTO 9 Peak to receive a full recharge in just one hour. Priced at $569 for the standard model and $699 for the titanium spec, the SUUNTO 9 Peak Smartwatch is available for preorder now, with deliveries scheduled to commence on June 17th.
