For all of the product placement that takes place within the James Bond film franchise — and it’s a lot — the world’s suavest secret agent has never worn any specific fragrance on screen. This has left fans to guess what scent 007 would wear himself, with most landing on Floris London’s No. 89. The classic fragrance was a favorite of Bond creator and author Ian Fleming, who name-dropped the brand in a handful of his 007 novels. Floris had always welcomed the connection, but never in an official capacity — until now, anyway.
In celebration of the 60th anniversary of Dr. No marking the start of the James Bond film franchise, Floris has released its first official James Bond cologne with the brand-new No. 007 Eau de Parfum. Far more than just an exercise in marketing, however, Floris put all of the expertise its learned over nearly 300 years in the fragrance business to create something that really feels true to James Bond. The EDP’s notes garnered inspiration from a number of Bond’s films, adding up to what sounds like a pretty intoxicating unisex scent.
Kicking things off in the top notes are bergamot, sweet orange, juniper, and geranium, with the citrus inspired by the Italian settings of From Russia with Love and Casino Royale, and the Juniper being a nod to the gin in Bond’s Vesper Martini. The mids include rosemary, rose, and red carnation, with the latter being Bond’s flower of choice for his white dinner jacket’s buttonhole in Goldfinger and Spectre. Finally, the base is made up of amber rum, sandalwood, Scottish oakmoss, and musk, with the warm rum recalling Bond’s Jamaican adventures in Dr. No and No Time to Die, and the oakmoss and musk bringing things back home to his Scottish estate from Skyfall.
While Bond has previously had “official” fragrances of the drug store variety, this feels like the first juice the character would actually wear. Sold in a bottle featuring graphics inspired by Dr. No’s famed opening sequence and including a commemorative booklet and a special presentation case, Floris London’s No. 007 Eau de Parfum is available at both Floris’ online store and the 007 Store for $245.
