Starry Night Illuminated Bike Path by Daan Roosegaarde
Inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry Night” masterpiece, artist Daan Roosegaarde and Heijmans Infrastructure have teamed up to create a truly dazzling piece of art in the Dutch town of Nuenen.
This illuminated bicycle path features thousands of shining stones that, combined with glow-in-the-dark technology and solar-powered LED lights, transforms a leisurely walk or ride into something magical. The one-kilometer-long path made its debut November 13. Of course, we could see a lot of people looking down and running into each other, but hey, at least it’d be a pretty wreck. This is actually the second time Roosegaarde and Heijmans joined forces. They’ve also been working on a “Smart Highways” project that combines light, energy and road signs that respond to the latest traffic situations.
