At first glance, these images look like they are press photos for the upcoming Rogue One or pretty much any other studio Star Wars film, but they couldn’t be further from it. Each of these shots are of miniature action figures placed into life-like sets and captured by photographer and U.S. Marine Matthew Callahan.
Inspired by the things he saw while on deployment – from lighthearted card games, to firefights, and outright exhaustion – each of these photos seems to capture utterly human moments. Despite being miniatures, each model expresses real emotion by virtue of the artful positioning by Callahan. His ability to give these fighters so much life in his photographs is a testament to his own attentiveness and creativity as a storyteller. Be sure to follow him on Instagram to keep up with his work.
