For timepiece collectors, dive watches serve a special purpose due to their premier mechanics and construction. Built to withstand great differences in pressure without failing or cracking, dive watches are a special breed without a doubt. Therefore, it’s no wonder Spinnaker worked to build this special tribute watch to American free-diver Robert Croft.

For those who aren’t familiar, Croft is best known as becoming the first person to free-dive beyond a depth of 200 feet in 1967. Before then, he served as a US Navy diving instructor beginning in 1962 and during his time was able to practice daily in a 118-foot deep submarine escape tank. This training suited Croft, who after a year was able to up his breath-hold time from an initial 2 minutes to over 6 minutes where he’d drop to the surface of the tank, remain stationary for 3 minutes and slowly return to the surface in true free-dive fashion.

The Croft Automatic

A Commemorative Heirloom-Worthy Masterpiece

Now, Spinnaker has crafted a handsome tribute dive watch to honor the spirit of Robert Croft. Aptly dubbed the Croft Automatic Dive Watch, it’s a Diver timepiece now imbibed with the spirit of his notable achievement. The entire collection hosts four different colorways in blue, brown, black, and emerald green and features a Marine Grade stainless steel case measuring in at 43mm. Each refined timepiece also boasts a uni-directional turning bezel complemented with a matte finish and luminous marking at the 60-minute position.

Additionally, each bezel is precisely engineered to offer an exact measurement of elapsed time at 120 seconds while the Croft’s screw-down crown boasts a sizable grip for easy underwater usage. From a design standpoint, Spinnaker wanted the Croft to feature a vintage look in conjunction with modern enhancements such as a Luminous baton and circular Super LumiNova indexes for low-light conditions.

Regarding accuracy, the Croft also boasts a reliable Japanese Miyota subdial 8218 movement – also visible thanks to a see-through case back – with a second display at the 4:30 position to keep the overall aesthetic both clean and straightforward. It’s all protected via a scratch-resistant sapphire lens complete with a Cyclops date display at the 3 o’clock position.

From here, each watch features a 15 ATM water resistance rating meaning it’ll keep ticking along up to 500 feet under water, comes equipped with a hand-stitched genuine leather strap, a weight of only 110 grams, and is available now for pre-order on the Spinnaker site for $320. However, feel free to use the code HICON30 at checkout to enjoy an additional 30% that retail price. Nothing like great deals to support well-made timepieces purposed to pay homage to an American free-diving legend.
