For a while there in the 1990s and early aughts our interest in space-travel had waned. With no more Soviets to one-up, we’d lost our drive to explore the great, big mysterious soup we’re all floating in. Thankfully that is no longer the case. We now have workaholic billionaires like Elon Musk developing increasingly impressive technology and leaking photos of things like the SpaceX Spacesuit on Instagram.
According to Musk, this isn’t a photo of some concept or rendering – it is actually a working pressure suit intended to be used on trips into space. It will likely be worn by NASA astronauts when the SpaceX Dragon 2 capsule embarks its first commercial crew mission to the International Space Station in 2018. Not only will those astronauts be the first to ever fly a private mission to the ISS, but they’ll probably be the coolest looking to ever leave the atmosphere.
